Is Understood.

professionals managing life-altering change.

Finding Your Way After Loss

Grief is one of the most universal human experiences, yet we often carry it in isolation.

From the outside, things may look relatively unchanged. You continue to show up for work, care for your family, manage responsibilities, and do what needs to be done.

Perhaps you are grieving the death of someone you love, a marriage that ended, children leaving home, changes in health, a career that no longer feels meaningful, or a version of yourself that no longer fits. Midlife has a way of thrusting us into loss, change, and adjustment.

Unexpressed grief will come out in different ways. You may experience restlessness, irritability, loneliness, or exhaustion. Some days feel contained and stable, but a memory, a milestone, or an unexpected reminder highlights how different things are now.

It is common to tell others, “I’m doing okay,” because we don’t know what else to say or how to say it.

Therapy offers a space to slow down and make room for the experience of grief and loss. Together, we honor what has been lost, explore how these changes have shaped you, and begin to imagine what life might look like as you step towards the future.

What Becomes Possible Through Grief Therapy

  • A space where you don’t have to manage how your grief lands on other people.
  • Permission to feel whatever you actually feel, including the complicated parts, the guilt, the relief, and the anger.
  • The experience of being truly heard by someone who understands grief at this depth, and has been through their own hard chapters.

And over time, that leads to:

  • Less of the exhaustion that comes from carrying grief alone for too long.
  • Sleep that isn’t interrupted by memories, worries, or unanswered questions.
  • Meet this new reality with more steadiness.

Grief Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm ready to start?

Most people who find their way to grief therapy have already spent a long time trying to handle it on their own, and arrived here when they realized that wasn’t working.

You don’t need to be in crisis to begin, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before the first session.

A free 15-minute consultation is the lowest-stakes way to find out if this feels like the right fit

There’s no window you have to fit into, and there’s no version of “too late” when it comes to working through something that still weighs on you.

Many people come to grief therapy months or even years after a loss.

Often, because life kept moving, and there was never a good moment to stop and actually feel it.

Whenever you arrive, the work is still worth doing.

That’s very common, and it’s something we move into at your pace.

The first sessions are about building the kind of trust that makes the deeper work possible.

You won’t be asked to go somewhere you’re not ready to go.

Most people are surprised by how quickly a safe space changes what feels possible to say out loud.

That’s exactly what this work is for.

Grief is not designed to be simple or logical. You may experience two opposites at once, like relief and anger. We humans are good at compartmentalizing; however, what we bury is still there. You are allowed to be messy, contradictory, or simply confused by your grief. All of it deserves care.

One reason grief therapy can feel different is that grief is approached differently.

General therapists are skilled at identifying problems, reducing symptoms, and creating new approaches to old patterns. Grief therapists, however, focus their training and skills on the deeper, existential experiences of life.

Grief is not something to fix. Rather, the goal of grief therapy is to integrate a new reality without dismissing its impact

Some sessions may involve talking about the loss. Other sessions may focus on the emotions, questions, and challenges that have emerged since the loss occurred.

We also explore how grief is affecting your relationships, sense of identity, daily life, and hopes for the future. We may spend time making sense of difficult emotions, identifying patterns that keep you feeling stuck, honoring meaningful memories, or finding ways to stay connected to what matters most.

There isn’t a set timeline.

Some people come to therapy for support during a particularly difficult season of grief.

Others choose to stay longer as they navigate the lasting impact of a significant loss.

Together, we’ll regularly assess what’s most helpful for you.

The length of therapy is guided by your needs, your goals, and the pace that feels right for your healing process.

Yes.

Sessions are available both in-person at the office in The Woodlands and virtually across Texas.

Some people find it easier to open up to someone while they’re physically in the same room.

Others appreciate the flexibility that comes with virtual therapy and the comfort of being in their own space. We’ll explore what is best for you.

There’s a lot of grief content out there, like articles, apps, AI tools, and online communities.

Some of it is genuinely helpful for understanding what grief is.

However, having knowledge about grief and taking steps to integrate loss into your life are two different things.

Recovering from loss requires a real human connection, over time, with someone who can sit with you in the complexity of it.

There is no replacement for someone getting to know and attune to YOU specifically.

KK Therapy Group is a private pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.

Many people choose private pay because it allows therapy to be guided by their needs rather than insurance requirements.

This offers greater flexibility in the focus, pace, and length of treatment, while also providing an added level of privacy.

If you have out-of-network benefits, a superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement from your insurance company.

Simply book a free 15-minute consultation using the calendar above.

This is a low-pressure conversation, where we’ll see if we’re a good fit and how grief therapy can help you the most.

It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and share a little about what you’re carrying.

There’s no commitment required.

If it feels right, we’ll talk about next steps from there.
